Atlantis Resort & Casino is the principal draw on Paradise Island, where all the action takes place. If you’ve never been to a casino before, you have to make the trip across the bridge to Paradise Island, even if it’s only to take in the spectacle. After a general $650 million renovation, the new casino covers several acres, all within the greater confines of the resort. It’s all glitz and glass, and rivals anything in Las Vegas.
Built over water and invoking the spirit of lost Atlantis, its rooms are themed around the ancient temples of the lost civilization: the Temple of the Sun, the Temple of the Moon, etc. Five huge glass sculptures designed and built by Dale Chihuly draw the eye from wherever you might be in the building. Surrounding the casino is a massive shopping mall, with 35,000 square feet of retail outlets that cater mainly to the rich and famous, with Lalique, Versace, Cartier, Armani, Gucci, Ferragamo, Bulgari, and so on. In the casino itself are slots, hundreds of them, and all the other games of a world-class casino. They have blackjack, craps, poker, Caribbean poker, and more.
For guests coming for the accommodations only, the Atlantis' guest rooms. new and old, are luxurious by any standards. And its restaurants, all 20 of them, are excellent.
